Early HistoryEarly History – The French Revolutionary Wars

Originally known as the 100th Regiment of Foot, and later the 92nd Highlanders, The Gordons were raised specifically to fight the French and for the first 20 years that is exactly what they did.

Their service took them to the Netherlands, Egypt, Denmark, Portugal and Spain before fighting into France itself. By the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, the Regiment had established a reputation as one of the most effective and dependable units in the British Army.
