Their Past Your Future - Phase 2 Project

http://www.tpyfscotland.org.uk/Projects/Gordon_Highlanders_Museum_.aspx

This one year project, which started in October 2008, focuses on capturing the unique oral history of post World War Two conflicts and peace keeping missions, giving centre stage to the veterans and young people involved through interviews, storytelling, art and other creative activities.

The Museum worked with pupils from Riverbank Primary school, Cornhill Primary School and Robert Gordon’s College encouraging them to learn history directly from the people who lived it, experiencing first hand the heart and soul of their daily life; the hopes, feelings, aspirations, disappointments, family histories, and personal experiences.

This is an incredible opportunity to tap into a wealth of undiscovered memories, to share priceless insight and stories, and to ensure that these crucial accounts of war are never forgotten. We hope to inspire people of all ages to truly discover the impact of 20th century conflict and to understand why it is relevant now and in the future.

The Museum will also design a child-friendly oral history toolkit made in consultation with the young people involved, to encourage and enable youngsters and teachers to explore their local heritage and history.

Their Past Your Future Scotland is led by Museums Galleries Scotland and is supported by the Big Lottery Fund. It is part of a larger initiative, TPYF (UK) involving a partnership of: the Imperial WarMuseum; Museums, Libraries and Archives England; Northern Ireland Museum council; National Library of Wales; and Museums Galleries Scotland.
